Telephone renewals

Although it has been possible for some years now to renew loans via the catalogue, some library users still prefer to telephone the library to do so. However this service is only available during counter opening hours, and the phone can go unanswered if all members of counter staff are already helping other library users. To this end we've now introduced an automated telephone renewals service.

Callers to the renewals line (01782 733230) will now be greeted by an automated system which can handle renewals, as well as listing your loans and due dates, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The system will recognise either your Keele card number or your library barcode number, to which you must add a # at the end. You can list your loans, renew them, as well as learning of any other information about your library account. If your call is complicated and you still want to speak to a person, there is an option for this, but please be aware that this is only available during counter opening hours.

Please let us know what you think of this new service.

Refworks - Logging In Problems

Some Refworks users have recently reported difficulties logging in.
We sincerely apologise for any disruption this may have caused.
The current problem mostly seems to affect users who connect to Refworks using the "Institutional" or "Shibboleth" link from the Refworks corporate website (www.refworks.com). At the moment this link is directing users to an "Athens" login page which has been discontinued some time ago. We have informed Refworks of the problem and we're hoping they will correct it very soon.
In the meantime, if you're having the same problems, please use the login link provided on the Library's Refworks page instead. If you use Refworks in tandem with other e-journal sources at Keele, we recommend you login to Refworks first before doing any searches for journal literature and so on. This can also alleviate problems.
One other way to solve login issues can be to remove all cookies and browsing history information from your browser. This can be especially useful if you have multiple accounts from different institutions or are still occasionally using NHS Athens accounts with the same web browser (see below for instructions);
Instructions for users of Internet Explorer:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278835
For users of Firefox:
Once you've done this, close your web browser, then re-start it, and then try to log in using the link on the Library’s connection page:

http://www.keele.ac.uk/library/find/refworks/

As a rule of thumb we always recommend using Library e-resources via the Library's website. Refworks is no exception. Remember you can also contact Refworks directly at support@refworks-cos.com out of office hours.
